RSVP ARTIST TALK ON PHOTOGRAPHY | Transforming the Familiar: Imaging History Through Wei Leng Tay's Creative Process

How do images and the way they are made and presented influence how we see ourselves and the world around us? Join artist Wei Leng Tay and curator and art historian Charmaine Toh as they discuss Wei Leng’s photographic works now on display at Crane Joo Chiat. Through these works, with their beginnings in the artist’s family photographs, Wei Leng and Charmaine will expand upon the relationship between the changes in photography in recent history, technologies, and how these shape overlapping personal and public spheres.

About the co-speaker: CHARMAINE TOH is an independent curator and art historian. She received her PhD from the University of Melbourne and is the author of Imagining Singapore: Pictorial Photography from the 1950s to 1970s (Brill, 2023). Charmaine was formerly Senior Curator at National Gallery Singapore where she presented Living Pictures: Photography in Southeast Asia (2022/3), the first survey of the history of photography in the region. Previously, she was the Programme Director at Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film. She also co-curated the 2013 Singapore Biennale.
