Happy City St. John's Board of Directors Nomination Form
Happy City St. John’s is a non-profit which seeks to encourage, inform, and facilitate civic dialogue in our city. At our 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, October 21 from 7:00 to 8:30pm, we are looking for self-nominations to fill six [6] board member positions.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Board members are a key part of shaping and executing the work of Happy City St. John’s. They serve a two-year term and meet at least monthly, with additional committee meetings to plan for and implement events and campaigns.

Members of the Board are encouraged to bring forward ambitious ideas for Happy City projects, and are given the opportunity to work with our energetic team to bring those ideas to fruition.

Board members are expected to attend at least 50% of board meetings, unless accommodations are agreed upon by the Chair. Due to COVID-19, meetings have been taking place online.

Happy City St. John’s has an active volunteer board, and members should expect to spend at least 5-10 hours per month on Happy City duties.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
We are seeking board members with diverse experiences who have a passion for making their community a better place. All levels and kinds of expertise and lived experience are welcome.

Happy City St. John’s is committed to fulfilling its mission while embracing equity and diversity. We would be particularly interested in self-nominations from people who are members of designated groups including women, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, racialized persons/visible minorities, and persons of minority sexual orientation or gender identity (2SLGBTQIA+). We believe these citizens' experiences must be at the center of the work we do and hence strongly encourage nominations from people with these identities to apply.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Individuals self-nominate by completing the online form below. Anyone can stand for election, except for candidates or elected officials for municipal, provincial, or federal office.

Your bio will be shared on the website and via email in advance of the AGM to inform members who are planning on attending the AGM and voting. You will be asked to share a little bit about yourself and why you are interested in a board role during the AGM (2 mins max/nominee).

The election of new board members takes place on Wednesday, October 21 at Happy City’s AGM. Members vote to elect candidates at the AGM following the introductions of all candidates. Candidates for election must attend the AGM.

Contact information collected in this form will only be used to reach you before the AGM and otherwise will not be shared or used.

Submit your application by 4 pm on Tuesday, October 13.
