Call for Artists: Rising Seas Workshops

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED - MARCH 7TH

Rhythmix Cultural Works (RCW) is seeking artists in disciplines of visual arts, creative movement, music, spoken word, etc., whose work has an environmental focus to create and oversee an interactive workshop to increase awareness about climate change. Workshops will host approximately 20-25 seniors, families with children, or formerly unhoused residents at one of three Alameda Housing Authority (AHA) locations. In order to better serve the diverse communities at these sites, artists with fluency in a language other than English (Korean, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Spanish or Arabic preferred) are encouraged to apply, but is not required.  A $500 stipend will be provided per workshop (stipend amount is inclusive of materials fees).

The Rising Seas Climate Arts Workshops will be scheduled between April and May 2025 (exact dates to be determined) and will lead up to three Rising Seas live performance events on May 31, June 21, and July 12, 2025. Artists will also be asked to provide creative hands-on activities for at least one of these live events.

Selected artists may be invited to exhibit their work in RCW’s K Gallery from June to August with opening and closing dates to be determined.

Rising Seas is a site-specific multidisciplinary series of free live performances and public art events designed to increase awareness of the impact of rising sea levels and climate change on the island of Alameda. Artist-led workshops and performances are intended to engage people in imagining a better future and provide a sense of hope through community dialogue and action. Rising Seas is an anchor project of the Rising Tides Climate Arts Initiative produced in collaboration with the City of Alameda, Radium Presents and the West End Arts District.
