Course Aims

This course aims to introduce the students to the principles of parenting through the lens of Shari’ah

Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of this course, the students should be able to:

1. Understand what Shari’ah requires of Parents
2. Bring the Shari’ah principles of Parenting into our lives
3. Raise children who are successful in this life and the hereafter

Course Content

1. Hadith relating to Parenting
2. Quranic verses relating to Parenting
3. Parenting dynamics and styles relating to the different stages in a child’s life
4. Islamic vision of Parenting, Compassion, Duas, Manners etc
5. Challenges faced by Parents in the 21st Century and its solutions

Learning and Teaching Approach

The following learning and teaching approach applies to this course:

The course will be delivered entirely online. The course will be taught in a lecture style. A variety of teaching materials might be used such as slides and notes depending on the lecture. The class duration is1 hour split into the following portion:

• 45 mins of lecture
• 15 mins of Questions & Answers

Prerequisite 

Couples who are married or planning to get married within the next 6 months (or planning to start a family soon)

Course Policies

1. As the course will be conducted online via Zoom, and due to various constraints, male and female students would be in the same lecture. As such all students must switch off the video. 
2. Notes which are crucial to the understanding of the lecture would be provided to the students as and when needed
