Nebraska BFF (Breastfeeding-Friendly) Business - Award Application

Recognize your business as one of Nebraska’s Breastfeeding-Friendly (BFF) Businesses. Supporting breastfeeding families in the work place is not only the law, but is one way for businesses to embrace wellness, impact health care costs, lower absenteeism and be seen as a family-friendly business for potential and current employees. Businesses of all sizes and types are encouraged to apply to share creative solutions to support breastfeeding families and employees.

Applying for this award costs $10. This helps us cover the cost of printing your certificate and mailing you your award and other promotional materials you may use in your business. Additional certificates (for multiple locations) may be requested for an additional cost.

If your business would like to become a member of the Nebraska Breastfeeding Coalition or a fiscal sponsor, the application fee will be waived for as long as you are a current member or fiscal sponsor.

To apply for this award:

Complete the application below. Please make sure you have all criteria and supporting documentation available before filling out application. Uncomplete applications will not be seen. If you have any issues please email bfsupport@nebreastfeeding.org.

Applications may be submitted at any time during the year and will be recognized quarterly (February, May, August, November). Annual awards will be presented each year during the quarter you were recognized in after recertification. Recertification is required every year.

Award Criteria, required by law:

Lactation room is able to be locked from the inside (intrusion free)

Lactation room does not have windows or has windows with coverings that can be used to block

Lactation room is NOT a bathroom or connected to a bathroom

Workers who telework must also be free from observation by any employer-provided or required video system, including computer camera, security camera, or web conferencing platform.

Business provides all lactating employees flexible breaks to express milk or nurse

Business allows employee to be completely relieved from duty; or must be paid for the break time.

Business offers a welcoming atmosphere that allows lactating individuals to nurse or express milk in a designated location

Business provides a private room, other than a bathroom, for expressing milk or nursing

The lactation room has supportive amenities including, but not limited to a sink in the room or nearby, comfortable chair, an inside lock on the door, a small table and an electrical outlet

Business provides all lactating employees flexible breaks to express milk or nurse

Business has an informal or formal lactation support policy

Business educates all staff on the lactation support policy
