White Alum Anti-Racism Training (WAAT)     Interest form
FALL COHORT FORMING NOW!: REVISED START DATE IS **OCTOBER 5th, 2021**

The WAAT consists of seven 3-hour sessions, spaced two weeks apart. Each cohort is limited to 16 participants. In consultation with BIPOC leadership, this training was designed by and for white Wellesley alums who seek to be pro-actively and reflectively in solidarity with Black, Indigenous and other people of color in the Wellesley alum community and beyond, and who are working to dismantle white supremacy and racism. The intensive classwork focuses both on dismantling our own internalized racism, through mind, heart and body-centered practices; and developing an anti-racist action plan as an accountable ally. Each 3-hour class focuses on a theme, designed to unlearn racism and build up our “upstander” and allyship/co-conspirator muscles. This multi-generational space encourages white alums to create a caring culture of risk-taking and deep learning.

The curriculum was developed by Wellesley alums over the last several years through a process of intensive study and self-reflection under the direction of the Wellesley Racial Justice Initiative, and draws many anti-racist sources addressing epistemological, intellectual, social, political, economic, cultural structural/institutional, historical and embodied aspects of racism & white supremacy.

Two full books are required for this course: How to be an Anti-Racist, by Ibram X. Kendi and White Fragility, by Robin DiAngelo. The course expectation is 4 - 6 hours of homework every two weeks.

We intend to cultivate a safe but courageous caucus that is both a learning/processing and a practice space. As we set and pursue goals around using our particular skill sets within our own spheres of influence to challenge racism and white supremacy, we will reflect on and learn from our own mistakes.

If you are unable to attend the course dates this fall, please complete this form and check “Unavailable” under course dates. You will be put on a list to notify for future course dates.
