Up to a total of $4,500 will be awarded as follows:

There will be at least one male athlete and one female athlete receiving scholarships. The Western Athletic Booster Club (WABC) reserves the right to distribute up to $4,500 as they see most appropriate, based on the applicants.

NOTE: This is a different scholarship application than the Academic Boosters Scholarship.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:
1. A senior at Western High School
2. A participant in athletics at the Varsity level
3. Enrolled at an institute of higher learning by the following September (includes university, college, military/trade school)

Note: Award will not be given to a student athlete receiving a full ride to a higher learning institution as it must be used for tuition, books or housing. Recipients must provide proof of enrollment (eg. class schedule) before payment can be made.

Scholarship Recipient Selection

A selection committee from the Western Athletic Boosters evaluates essays in a blind manner (names removed).

Selection Committee: Evaluate essays individually, then results averaged
• Minimum two WABC Board Members
• Minimum two WABC General Members
• Maximum five persons total
• May not be a parent of a WHS senior

Tabulation: Currently, the website coordinator downloads the online responses into a spreadsheet and tabulates the results of Questions 1-6. The athlete names are stripped and the essays from Question 7 are combined in a file for the Selection Committee to evaluate blindly. Essay scores are returned, added to spreadsheet and ranked by score. If a tie occurs, the Athletic Director will decide. WABC reserves the right to distribute the total scholarship money as it sees most appropriate, based on applicants.
