The Institute for Sustainable Teaching (IST) is a CSU Writing Project (CSUWP) program that we are excited to offer at the Denver Writing project (DWP). The institute is devoted to helping you “fill the well” as a teacher by giving you space and time for personal restoration and professional renewal. We will work together in a small community to explore the concept of “sustainable teaching” and to develop resiliency practices that will allow you to thrive in this profession for the long haul. As you might guess, writing will be front and center.
DEADLINE TO SIGN UP: Because the IST is geared toward development of a small, intimate community, we’re limiting it to 20 participants. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, November 1st.
Course Dates from 9:00am-3pm on the CU Denver Campus in the Tivoli Student Union:
A certificate for Professional Development hours will be offered.
WHO SHOULD COME?
The IST is open to twenty K-16 educators in all content areas. This includes teachers, counselors, administrators, community educators, basically anyone who’s connected to the profession. You should come if:
- want to rejuvenate yourself around this profession, because you still love it deep down
- you’re willing to take emotional and intellectual risks oriented toward healing and growth in community
- you’re committed to writing, reading, reflecting, and thinking hard together
- you’re professionally responsible, that is, you’ll attend all sessions, complete the reading, and participate in all activities
-you’re determined to “get better”--in both the sense of recovery and the sense of progress. (As Anne Lamott would say, you might need to whine for a while, but you can’t be “whiny-baby.”)
