Please Sign Open Letter: We Support Maud Maron
Place holder: Maud Maron is a public school mom of four who has served as a dedicated parent volunteer for the school communities of district 2. She is the elected President of the Community Education Council of D2 where she has served since 2017. Parents of PS41 and Salk School of Science elected Maud to their School Leadership Team (SLT). Maud was appointed by the Council Member Chin and Manhattan Borough President Brewer to serve on Community Board 2 where she sat on the Schools and Education committee for 5 years.
Under Maud’s leadership the Community Education Council D2 passed numerous resolutions and achieved meaningful outcomes for students and families in district 2:
Expanded lead and mercury testing in schools.
Establishment of an American Sign Language (ASL) dual language program.
Removing early voting sites from schools.
Adherence to Open Meeting Laws in school governance and many others.
Established the D2 Multilingual Learner Committee and helped create the first French Dual Language UPK in the district.
Provided Students in Temporary Housing with access to books during Covid.
Advanced the New York State Integration Project (NYSIP) effort to secure a $3.1 million grant.
Despite this impressive record, and her deep commitment to making room for all voices to have a seat at the table, Maud has been relentlessly attacked by a small extremist group who seek to vilify parents that support rigorous academic school programs for their children. They have vindictively targeted Maud for her outspoken and effective advocacy on behalf of families in D2 and throughout the city. They have slandered and impugned her reputation.
Maud is a staunch advocate for high quality, challenging education for every student in all NYC DOE Public Schools by increasing the academic rigor of all school curricula. Maud supports expanding Gifted and Talented (G&T) in every community; providing honors classes in middle schools and creating additional Specialized High Schools. Maud believes that all students regardless of race, disabilities, English Language Learner status and socioeconomic level deserve the access and opportunity to achieve their fullest potential.
