Self-Rescue is a full weekend course developed in part with local guide Mick Pearson that teaches the skills needed to perform a rescue in a number of climbing scenarios. Rather than forcing you to memorize complex steps, we start with simple tools and build up so by the end of the weekend you will be able to put them together in order to solve a variety of rescue problems. We focus on a vertical rock environment, but many of the tools translate well to technical snow and ice as well.

This course is for anyone climbing with ropes in technical terrain who wants to have the ability to get themselves or another party down safely should something happen at the crag or in the mountains. To get the most out of this course, you should be comfortable on 5.7-5.8 terrain, be able to pass our knots test, and commit to lots of practice with the munter-mule-overhand. (Link to view knots test:  https://bit.ly/3vxKlNl )

The curriculum was also majorly revamped and improved in 2018 so if you took it before that we think it’ll be worth your time to take it again. (Alternatively, sign up to instruct!)

The cost for the course is $125. If you are experiencing financial hardship that will prevent you from taking this course, please contact us to discuss scholarship options.

Self-Rescue will be offered again later this summer along with the rest of the Intermediate Climbing Class. Be advised that in August, preference will be given to applicants who want to take the entire course, so if you are only interested in Self-Rescue, we encourage you to take it now.
