CALL TO COMMUNITY! It is Makery Coworking's privilege to call the former site of the Hart's Store our home. One of the nicest parts of opening this business has been meeting people with fond memories of Hart's. They visit our space and share stories while pointing out where everything was -- from kitchen supplies to model-airplane paint.
When Malcolm Carrier past away in 2018, the huge outpouring of love, memories and stories that took place on social media caught our attention. This triggered an idea: let's honor the memories of Hart's by inviting folks in the community to loan various items that have a connection to the store. We're looking for pictures, artifacts, products purchased in the store and stories/memories about their experiences. We'll gather what we can, then curate a show for all to enjoy.
We've already collected a few items and have found several old Hart's wood bins in the basement of the East Street Building. Most notably, we have the original Hart's store sign on loan from Paul Szymanski, which we're excited to display as the show nears.
If you have something to share, please fill out this form so that we can contact you. All items will be stored and locked safely at Makery Coworking until the show opens.
Our plan:
August - October: Collection of Hart's memorabilia.
October - November: Curating & Show planning.
December: "Honoring Hart's" Show opens (exact date TBD). Opening show will include Cocktail Party with guest speakers. A videographer will be on site to record on-site testimonials.
January: Loaned items returned/picked up.
We have been in discussion with the NM Historical Society (NMHS) about transferring some of what we collect to NMHS for a permanent exhibit (with owner's permission, of course).
