Taylor's Version Project and Understanding of Music Ownership Rights

In my survey, I will be focusing on Taylor Swift’s re-recordings and their influence on adolescents’ understanding of music ownership.

The rise of music streaming has drastically changed how listeners engage with music, but many consumers remain unaware of the legal and financial implications behind ownership and rights. Taylor Swift’s decision to re-record her albums has brought attention to issues of artist control, record label contracts, and ethical music consumption. This research seeks to explore how adolescents—who make up a significant portion of music consumers—understand music ownership in the context of Swift’s re-recordings. I will be collecting data on understanding of music ownership rights before and after the Taylor's Version project and see whether it has informed understanding or not.
