At First Lutheran, we talk about discipleship being like a 3 legged stool. You need all three legs on the stool for it to be useful. As disciples we need to worship and pray, learn and serve if we are going to be able to transform the world for Jesus. We ask adults and children to make a commitment to grow as disciples because God needs us to do his work in the world. It’s God’s work and our hands that will help change the world!

This Discipleship Plan lists a few ideas to help you commit to growing as a disciple. You may come up with other ways to help you grow as a disciple and you can add those to the list.

Remember being a disciple of Jesus is important work.

Be an adventurer and try new things. Don’t be afraid – be bold!

If you are not sure how to do something or what something means, just ask for help. Disciples are not afraid to ask for help.

Disciples are prepared. They come ready to do the job, are on time, dressed for the job and come with a smile.

Be welcoming.

Share your stories. People want to know what you are learning and how you are serving.

Participate in worship, pass the peace with others, sing and speak pieces of liturgy you learn, be a worship assistant and go up front for the children's message.

Watch to see how God is at work in the world. Be kind to others. Respect others and listen to their stories. Help whenever you can. Say please and thank you.

Jesus says we should pray without ceasing. That’s like praying when you see a fire truck that God will help keep everyone safe. Or saying a prayer when you get in the car each day or giving a prayer of thanks for your food when you eat a meal.
