Kuumba Spring Concert 2022 Livestream Form
On behalf of the Kuumba Singers of Harvard College, we would like to formally invite you to “My Soul Has Got to Move,” our upcoming Spring Concert.

The word kuumba, a Swahili word that means “to create,” truly encapsulates the spirit of the choir’s mission, which is to celebrate the creativity and spirituality of Black people in all of its forms. Kuumba was founded in 1970 by Black Harvard undergraduates, and is the oldest continuous Black undergraduate organization on Harvard’s campus. Founded during a time of racial tension and campus unrest following the 1968 assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the choir emerged as a safe space for Black students. Today, Kuumba continues to serve as a source of community, as well as space to celebrate the creative genius of Black people through song, dance, poetry, and many other forms of artistic expression.

The past year has been tumultuous, but also one of rebuilding and hope. The COVID pandemic is not over and still affects our lives everyday, but we are so happy to be back in person and able to perform again. We still remain steadfast and committed to remain strong, hoping that the future holds even greater victories than those encountered in the past.

It is in celebration of this resilience that we invite you to "My Soul Has Got to Move," our Annual Dean Archie C. Epps Spring Concert. As the winds of hate and violence continue to blow, threatening to swallow us whole, we remain anchored in who we are and what we believe to be true; that our spirits cannot and will not be diminished, and that when all is said and done, we stand strong.

While our concert will be held in Sanders Theatre at 8PM on Saturday, April 30, we are also providing a livestream option for anyone unable to come in person. If you are interested in taking advantage of the livestream option, please use this form so that we celebrate our first Spring Concert since 2019 with you!
