Purpose in Life Test for Playbook participants
Source: Crumbaugh & Maholick, 1964

This version of the Purpose in Life Test is meant to be completed by people working their way through the twelve chapters of the Resilience Playbook by Elaine Shpungin, Ph.D.

Playbook participants may use this assessment, one of the most widely used in the world, to track their growth or progress in the areas of purpose and meaning.

--------------------------------------------------------

FIRST TIME: Ideally, you will complete this as a "pre-assessment" before you read Chapter One or engage with any further Playbook content.

RE-ASSESSMENT: If you are completing one chapter per week, you are invited to fill this out again at the end of the twelve-week period, to check for progress and growth. If you are completing the Playbook over the course of a year (one month per chapter), you are invited to complete it again every three months.

---------------------------------------------------------

This scale asks several questions about feelings of optimism and vitality, as well as despair and lack of enthusiasm for living.

If you are feeling suicidal or have a desire to harm yourself, please seek immediate help and support from someone you trust. In the USA, you can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 24/7 (800-273-8255) or chat with someone on their website: suicidepreventionlifeline.org

Remember that a sense of Purpose and Possibility can be grown.

Finally, this form will ask your email address in order to send you a copy of your responses, so you can track your progress over time. Your email will NOT be shared with anyone without your consent. INSTRUCTIONS: For each item, choose the number (1 to 7) indicating where you are on the scale between the two statements. For instance, for the first item, 1=bored and 7=enthusiastic and right in between those two would be 4.
