The Teaching with Primary Sources Program is a grant funded by the Library of Congress. Mars Hill University has been a part of the Teaching with Primary Sources Program for 15 years. On Friday, July 21st we will host a regional mini conference where teachers from WNC will share their expertise on Appalachian Diversity and teaching that diversity through a lens of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy. Teachers from Madison County Schools have been immersed in a two-year fellowship studying Appalachia as a Microcosm of the American Story: Developing Curricula Exploring Diversity within Appalachia. These teachers are excited to share their learning with teachers from across the state of NC at this one-day event.
Session Topics include: Examining Change in Local Communities, Technological Advancement to Overcome Geographic Isolation, Quilting and Storytelling, Civil War and sectionalism, Art forms in Appalachia, Southern Appalachian Music, Farming Practices
