Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Marafiki Center's 3rd Annual Swahili Day!

Volunteers are the heart of Swahili Day and play an important role in making the celebration an organized and safe event while also engaging the general public in appreciating cultural diversity.

Date: Saturday, June 1, 2024

Location: BCTC Newtown Campus - 500 Newtown Pike, Lexington, KY 40508

Public Event Time: 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Volunteers will be asked to arrive earlier and stay later to help with set-up and clean-up. Shifts are available.

General Event Assistant: parking attendant, hang directional signs, other tasks as needed.

Decorating: hang flags, tablecloths, place signage, etc.

Vendor Assistant: support vendor booths with any on-site needs the day of.

Children's Activities: face painting, bounce house safety, games.

Stage Assistant: coordinate performance times, ensuring performers are ready to enter stage at their call times.

Tear Down Crew: breaking down tents, table, chairs, cleaning up decorations, loading into vans.

Set Up Crew: setting up tents, tables, chairs, booths, stations, stage, etc.

9 am - 12 pm (Early Set-Up)

12 pm - 3 pm (Set-up Continued)

3 pm - 6 pm (First Hour of Event and During Event, Shift 1)

6 pm - 9 pm (During Event, Shift 2)

9 pm - 11 pm (End of Event Clean Up)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Please remain flexible. There are no guarantees that volunteers will be placed in their first option. We allocate volunteers to specific teams based on the information provided in the application.

2. Volunteers MUST arrive on time on the day of the festival to receive a brief onsite orientation.

3. Volunteers are expected to complete all shift requirements. If unable to attend a shift due to illness, injury, or family emergency, contact the Program Manager immediately.

4. Volunteer shifts are 3-4 hours in duration and volunteers will receive a free T-shirt, snacks, and drinks.
