ORHS Schedule Survey
We promised that at some point we would revisit the "new" bell schedule to see if we need to make any adjustments.  The Leadership Team wants to start by gathering your input on potential changes with this survey. There is an additional question regarding Back to School Night that the team wants to run by you as well.

We need to note, that the team did not want to work through the logistics of each of these options unless the group had any interest in them.  So there is a chance that logistically some of the choices below might not be feasible.  So they need to know where your interest lies, and then will start to analyze the logistics and feasibility of those choices.

Reminder, this survey is just to gauge interest on each of these items. We would need to come back to the larger group with an official proposal to make any official changes.  If you need larger pictures of the images below, please click here.  If you have additional questions feel free to ask your Department Chair, Aaron or your Assistant Principal.  We were all part of the conversations that designed these questions.

Back to School Night Question
Below is one question on the best night for Back to School Night.  It is currently on Monday.  The rationale for Monday is that we have teachers who coach and Monday is the only day free of games.  Teacher Coaches did not want to miss games to be at BtSN. Parents were also forced to choose between coming to BtSN or watching their student's game.
What day would you like to see Back to School Night on?

Bell Schedule Questions
Below are questions that came up in Leadership.  We wanted everyone to be able to share their input on these topics.  The group wanted to provide background within some of the questions below.  Larger images of the schedules can be found here.  Thank you.
1. Currently, our 7th period is our only non-block period and is scheduled for the end of the day on Tuesday-Friday.  Where in the schedule would you prefer the short period?

2. How should Flex Time be structured in the bell schedule to best support students?  Please understand that choosing an alternative model could mean that the bell schedule would be significantly different every other day.

4. It was noted in our Leadership meeting that as a school we are extremely close to the minimum number of instructional minutes.  Most high schools have more minutes built into their day.  Some teachers have expressed difficulty covering content with our current instructional minutes.  The Leadership team wanted your feedback on adding instructional minutes to each class period and therefore extending the school day to support teaching and learning. Please click here to see a larger view of the schedules.

5. Should we move to a six period day and eliminate 7th period? (School day still needs to be 8:30 to 3:30)
Positives:
-Longer class periods, balanced schedule, would solve the problem of us counting 7 periods of instructional minutes even though some students don't have access to 7 classes.
Negatives:
-Less remediation opportunities, may create fewer elective options & fewer higher level classes, significant schedule change, only one period "off" for teachers, less competitive with other schools, currently have 19 7th period classes.
