Family Relations Chair 2022
Dance Marathon at FSU is looking for a Family Relations Chair to serve as the main liaison between our organization and the families from Shands Children’s Hospital in addition to the children in Gadsden County and other local organizations who are our FSU College of Medicine Pediatric Outreach Program beneficiaries. This position has the privilege of leading the Family Relations Team for the year and is responsible for keeping the families updated throughout the course of the year, working closely with Shands, and ensuring that the families have the time of their lives during the Marathon. It is important that this candidate be able to engage our families and help our dancers understand the importance of their journeys with pediatric illness and injury in a virtual and in person setting. The Family Relations Chair will work underneath the Marathon Director.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate interactions in a virtual and in person format between families and our organizations ensuring that our families are being loved and recognized
Plan the homecoming brunch and facilitate miracle family involvement at the parade
Organize DMFSU days at Shands Children's Hospital in Gainesville
Work closely with our Shands Advisors and College of Medicine Staff
For an in person marathon - Plan a themed family room, decorations, and activities for families at the Marathon
For a virtual hybrid marathon - Plan activities throughout the Marathon weekend that families can be involved in through an in person and virtual format
Make the families feel at home during Dance Marathon weekend; ensure that the set-up, utilization, and breakdown of the family room runs smoothly
Work with the technology chair to do family interviews and put family information on the website
Send families newsletters to update them about DM events
Plan in person and virtual events for our internal team and external community to allow for opportunities to engage with our local Miracle Families
Work closely with the Marathon Experience Chair, Engagement Chair, and Hospitality Chair in order to plan the most efficient and engaging events
Requirements and Skills:
Must be a full-time student at Florida State University with a GPA of 2.5 or above.
Must be able to commit to this role through the entire year, including summer, fall, and spring until the next marathon ends and new management team is selected.
Must not be studying abroad during Fall or Spring semesters
Must have a passion for children and their families
Outstanding communication skills and a collaborative attitude
