Returning to Help the Workforce Shortage

It is over 2 years since the implementation of the vaccine direction for healthcare workers in New South Wales. Here at the Nurses' Professional Association of NSW we believe a revocation of this mandate is well overdue.

Our hospitals are in crisis and NSW Health said it lost 12.6 per cent of its nursing staff in 2021-22, compared to about 7 per cent annually in the preceding three years with more expected to leave.

We are sending an open letter to Health Minister Ryan Park along with Shadow Health Minister, Matt Kean with a list of health professionals who are ready, willing and able to work for NSW Health to help this workforce shortage.

Our strength is in numbers. Hospitals may be able to get away with individually denying you a position, but they cannot deny hundreds of you across multiple health services and hospitals!

We need to ministers and the Chief Health officer to make their direction to the Local Health Districts clear.

ANMF Federal Secretary, Annie Butler, has said that she believed the number of nurses missing was in the 100s NOT the 1000s.

We know that this is definitely not the case and are hoping that with your help we can prove how many healthcare workers (nurses, midwives, paramedics, doctors etc) were affected Australia wide.
