Wiltshire and Dorset Deaf Association                 BSL Level 3 Access
Who is the course for?

This course is for people who have already achieved a BSL Level 2 qualification, or have equivalent attainment and who wish to develop their language and linguistic skills required for starting a full Level 3 qualification, if desired in the future.

What is the course about?

This informal course will build on the skills acquired at Level 2 and provide a starting point to prepare learners for assessments at Level 3, if desired.  Following the Signature Level  3 course specification, you will develop a greater understanding of the linguistics, structure and grammar of BSL. You will develop your signing vocabulary, for employment, education, leisure & social life, everyday living and Deaf History & Culture for use in conversations and presentations.

For further information about  the Signature BSL Level 3 course specification go to; www.signature.org.uk

Some home study and contact with the deaf community is an important part of your practical signing skills development during the course. Opportunities will be notified to help you to achieve this. During the first session the tutor(s) will provide further information and advice about the course content & themes and the teaching methods that will be used.

Early in the course the tutor will talk to you about what you would like to achieve and record this information in your Personal Progression Plan for you to track your progress. In discussing issues affecting all deaf people you will raise your own level Deaf Awareness and Communications that compliment BSL and be well placed to complete formal qualifications in these topics. The cost of these assessments is not included in the course fee.

What can be achieved?

Successful completion of the BSL Level 3 Access course will prepare all learners to embark on further study and development required to achieve the full level 3 qualification on a follow-on course, if desired.  You will in any case develop your signing skills to a higher level and increase your knowledge of deaf awareness and culture. What extra materials and costs are required? A notebook and pen and a file to keep handouts will be useful. It is recommended that you do not buy books or equipment until advised by the centre or course tutor(s). Refunds It is our policy not to refund course fees once the course has started unless it is cancelled by WDDA. What could the course lead on to? On successful completion of the course and qualification you will be ready to begin study for formal qualifications at Level 3.

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.  On successful completion of the course and qualification you will be ready to begin study for formal qualifications at Level 3.
