The Erwin District Bands are hosting Dr. Carol Krueger for a workshop on music literacy Monday, July 22 - Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in beautiful Asheville, NC, at Clyde A. Erwin High School. The workshop will take place each day from 8:30a-4:30p with a lunch break in the middle. A description of the workshop can be found below as well as information about housing, pricing, etc. A certificate for CEUs will also be awarded at the conclusion of the workshop.
Music Literacy & More Workshop
Helping students become musically literate is central to the school, community, and church music curriculum. Working from the premise that students learn musical skills in much the same order as they do language skills, participants will explore how we 'learn' music through hearing and imitating patterns before reading and writing. The pedagogy also includes sequential techniques for teaching improvisation and dictation, key components of music literacy. Workshop participants will also be presented with teaching strategies and techniques for integrating and applying literacy skills to appropriate repertoire.

You will want to look in the Northern/Western parts of Asheville for the shortest drive. Those that need housing should not wait to book. Asheville is a tourist destination in the summer and options will be limited the longer that you wait. We highly recommend getting out and enjoying downtown Asheville while you are here with us!
