Call for Proposals: Kentucky World Language Association 2023 Fall Conference
Empowering Student Voice through the 5Cs
September 29-30, 2023 (returning to a 2-day format!)
The Campbell House
Lexington, KY

KWLA is happy to continue offering our annual in-person conference in September 2023! Please join us at the lovely Campbell House in Lexington, Kentucky, as we turn our attention to amplifying student voice in our classrooms through practices rooted in ACTFL's 5Cs: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons & Communities.

We are looking for proposals for both 45-minute regular sessions for inclusion on Saturday, September 30, as well as a limited number of 2-hour workshops for Friday, September 29.

By submitting your proposal, you are committing to attend the conference on these dates. Presenters whose proposals are accepted but back out of the conference may not be considered for future opportunities. Presenters will be responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and registration but will be offered a reduced registration rate.

All submissions due by May 31, 2023 at 11:59 PM central. Acceptance emails will be sent in late June.

As you draft your proposal, please consider the following:
How will my session inspire attendees to increase student voice and/or student choice within my classroom?

How will students demonstrate one or more of the 5Cs as a result of the strategies I present?

How can I model a learner-centered environment during my presentation so attendees also feel empowered to share their voices?

Which of ACTFL's High Leverage Teaching Practices will my session demonstrate and support? (From Enacting the Work of Language Instruction, vols 1 & 2, HLTPs include Facilitating Target Language Comprehensibility; Building a Classroom Discourse Community; Guiding Learners to Interpret and Discuss Authentic Texts; Focusing on Form in a Dialogic Context through PACE; Focusing on Cultural Products, Practices, and Perspectives in a Dialogic Context; Providing Oral Corrective Feedback to Improve Learner Performance; Establishing a Meaningful and Purposeful Context for Language Instruction; Planning for Instruction Using an Iterative Process for Backward Design; Engaging Learners in Purposeful Written Communication; and Developing Contextualized Performance Assessments)
