Songwriter Lab, Saturday October 17th: Call for Proposals
// WRITE A SONG IN A DAY

Music Community Lab’s songwriting event is going virtual this year. This is a day for participants to learn songwriting techniques, find collaborators, and dedicate time to making music from scratch. The event will wrap up with an online showcase of the day's creations. It’s a free, non-competitive event organized by volunteers, and all are welcome to participate!

We’re looking for speakers and workshop leaders to help inform and guide participants in songwriting. Sessions will take place over Zoom.

We have limited slots available and a targeted goal for the day, so we may not be able to accept all submissions - but we’ll definitely keep them all in mind for future MCL events.

---
// TALKS

The event will start with a few short talks to inspire participants in songwriting, music creation and production.
Talks should be accessible to all skill levels, and deliver a key takeaway that attendees can put into practice on the day. These should be under 10 minutes, and will be live-streamed over YouTube.

// WORKSHOPS

This year, we’re looking for workshop leaders who can run participatory, hands-on sessions, guiding participants to come away with a foundational track, which they can build on to share at the event showcase.

Workshop proposals can be one of two types:

:: Full-stack - a 2 hour session that covers a broad range of basics to guide participants in creating a completed track. These workshops should be accessible to all skill-levels, including beginners. Sessions could be specialized by genre, tools, or theme (e.g. ‘Create a song using household objects’ or ‘Making an electronic song from start to finish’).

:: Sequential - a 1 hour session focusing on a specific aspect of songwriting, arranged as part of a sequential set of workshops leading to a complete track (e.g. if your session focuses on ‘Mixing and Mastering’, this might be curated with other submissions such as ‘Tracking’ and ‘Writing lyrics’). For this type of session, your content/technique should be general enough that it can work with the outcomes of other sessions.
