Yuval Noah Harari's "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind" posits that human dominance of the planet is founded on the ability to tell stories and create myth that allowed coordination beyond family units and across larger populations. Money, empires, religion and human rights are said to be imagined realities that helped us organize. Science challenged myth and convention.
In our 4th Lion Rock Symposia, inspired by a suggestion from the 3rd we can discuss whether myth and memes are drivers or destroyers of civilization. Can an economic and social order founded on myth or superstition support liberty and human flourishing?
