Vast tracts of prime
Australian agricultural land, remnant vegetation and culturally significant
land, are being compulsorily acquired for thousands of kilometres of massive
transmission lines, with poor consultation with landholders and local
communities, and at exorbitant financial cost to the taxpayer and energy
customers.
I ask for Members and Senators in the Australian Parliament
to support a Senate Inquiry into energy transmission lines, particularly
(a) their impact on agricultural land, remnant native vegetation, and
culturally significant land;
(b) the appropriateness and adequacy of consultation with affected landholders
and communities; and
(c) whether the proposed transmission lines are an
appropriate and justifiable expenditure of taxpayer and energy customer money.
