SCIENCE CLASS POLICIES

Homework:
There will be very little dedicated homework. Any assignments that are not completed during class time will become homework. If a student has science homework every night, that means they are not using their in class time effectively and might benefit from extra help. Please reach out if this is happening to you.

Grading:
Standards based grading is the practice at Wayne Carle.  Everything will be graded on a scale of 1-4. Final grades will be based on overall understanding of the standard. Each standard will have a Mastery Grade that will update every time more evidence is collected for that standard (each time a new assignment is graded). Individual assignments do not calculate towards the grade. Rather they are used as evidence of mastery for the Mastery Grade. Be sure to keep track of your evidence as it will impact your overall mastery.

Redoing Work:
Every single assignment can be redone during the unit it is in. If you are not happy with a grade, contact me and we will decide what needs to be done for the grade to improve. I care far more about learning that I care about perfection on the first try.

Late or Missing Work:
Students will have 1 week after the final assessment in a unit to complete any work from that unit. I will not accept any work after that week period without prior discussion. Please contact me if your student needs an extension for any reason!

Cell Phones:
Cell phone use is not allowed. You may keep your cell phone in your bag, in your pocket or in your locker. It must be out of sight during class time.
