Dr. Mark E. Williams, Sr. Scholarship was established in honor of the late husband of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Tau Gamma Omega Chapter member Stephanie A. Whyte-Williams, MD.
Dr. Williams was an internal medicine physician born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. Attended Chicago Public Schools and a prestigious historically black university (HBCU) prior to medical school. In undergrad, he was a chemistry major and proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. In his medical practice, he cared for underserved and low-income communities.
Dr. Williams was well respected among his peers. He was known for his service to others, love of family and community and his big, caring smile.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Current Historically Black College/University Undergraduate student (MUST have minimum of 12.0 credit hours completed)
- MUST be a pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, or pre-pharmacy science major
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Official College Transcript (Provide via email: scholarship@tearosefoundation.org ) Transcript MUST be sent by a school official, advisor, or administrator to be deemed "official."
- Provide two (2) Signed Letters of Recommendation (Provide via email: scholarship@tearosefoundation.org )
- Essay: Please answer the question…”How are you going to try to save the world?” Essay should be a 250 word min / 500 word max
