Overview

We are Fujimoto Traditional Carpentry, a local carpenters based in Hayama, Kanagawa prefecture - a city full of nature surrounded by a beautiful ocean and mountains.

Japan is known for being one of the most forest/timber-resources-rich countries, however our local timbers are barely used and many housings are built with imported woods and industrial products.

We, Fujimoto Traditional Carpentry, are a team of dedicated woodworking builders specialized in building solid-wood housings with Japan's one and only traditional house building techniques with all natural materials.

The houses we make are long-wearing buildings which stands for ages - the same way how the Japanese historic monuments stands for decades. These buildings, once they are taken down, will not cause any unnatural resource to remain. All and every pieces that forms the buildings will naturally return to earth and grounds.

Our dream is to continue building sustainable houses that are both human-and-eco friendly, and make such buildings become the new norm of Japanese housing industry.

In this Workshop, we want you to experience and observe the great Japanese carpentry techniques and traditional architectural methods, as well as learn its history and culture that forms the foundation of such beautiful crafting art.

We promise you our Workshop will be a fun experience for everybody. We invite all of you whom are already engaged in woodworking activities as well as those whom are looking for an opportunity to newly start entering the fun world of woodworking.

【What we do】

1. Housing visits of traditional woodworking buildings

We invite you to traditional housings with wood boiler and wood stoves, a living space filled with a concept of sustainable circulation.

Our objective is Off-grid, eco-friendly living that fusion traditional and modern techniques and knowledge to build a house that could circulate everyday living with nature products, minimal reliance on chemical fuels and using natural heat source.

2. Construction site visits

We will take you to Fujimoto Building Company's construction sites to show you our products and ongoing projects.

In this site visits, we will give you a full-guide tour of Japanese traditional architecture techniques and the breakdowns of complicated yet astonishingly detailed building structures.

After the visits we will take you to a local Japanese restaurant in the Showroom, where our project first begun.

The restaurant offers a great menu of lunch with local seafoods directly delivered from neighboring Sagami-Ocean.

3. "Daiku" (Carpenter) experience at the Workshop

We will get back to our Workshop to offer you a rare experience of traditional Japanese Daiku craftworks, utilizing our daily using tools(Kanna, Nomi, Chona, and so on) .

4. Fujimoto's mini-lumber mill and stockyard visits

Lastly, we shall take you to our own lumber mill and yard to show you our daily operations.
There, we mill our own building materials.

We warmly welcome you to visit Fujimoto's operation sites, so that we could share you our ideas and knowledge of how we build our sustainable buildings to contribute to circulating and recycling society.

It would be our great pleasure if our tour could provide you an opportunity to learn more about our society and its future.
