Use the Student Application Checklist as a guide to complete your application packet. Return the entire completed application packet to your Gifted Resource teacher or K-12 Facilitator of Gifted & Secondary Programs by Friday, January 10, 2020.  If you are not presently enrolled as a  student in Stafford County Public Schools, you must also include a signed Certification of Intent to Enroll form. You MUST be enrolled full-time in a public school in Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS)  to attend The Commonwealth Governor's School (CGS).

Upon receipt of your completed application, your Gifted Resource teacher will schedule any needed standardized testing and an interview with a portfolio review.  These will occur between January and mid-February.   Students will be notified of the time and place for each of these activities by their Gifted Resource Teacher.   If you do not currently attend SCPS, please contact Dr. Stephenie Fellinger by phone or email to schedule these days.

A committee will evaluate your completed application and supporting materials using a multi-criteria approach, which includes the following: achievement and ability test scores; grades; teacher recommendations; student honors; and a portfolio presented during an interview.  The identification committee will rank students based on their total points on the Candidate Profile Sheet.  CGS accepts a maximum of thirty qualified students per-grade level at each of SCPS's CGS sites.   A letter of the decision will be sent out on March 2, 2020, to all applicants who have completed the application process. March 13 is the student's deadline to respond to the decision (accept or decline program offer). They will complete an online response.

Much is expected of The Commonwealth Governor’s School students. The curriculum is demanding and participants work closely with other highly motivated students in King George, Spotsylvania, and Caroline counties.  The faculty and staff of The Commonwealth Governor’s School are committed to providing their students with a challenging and exciting high school program.  Please note that 8th-grade students must be currently enrolled in Algebra 1, at a minimum, to successfully apply for a seat at CGS.

If you have any questions, please call me at (540) 658-6689.  Again, congratulations on your decision to apply for participation in this regional community of learners.

Sincerely,

Stephenie L. Fellinger, Ed.D
K-12 Facilitator for Gifted and Secondary Programs
