The Mechanical Mermaids is a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team whose current members are also a part of the Team 4118: Roaring Riptide, a FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) team at P. K. Yonge. FTC and FRC are levels of FIRST, an organization dedicated to the education of children and teens in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In FTC, teams like ours build and program a robot to complete certain tasks and maneuvers during a game or match. Throughout the build season*, members will become acquainted with the different areas of our team like programming, electrical engineering, fundraising and more!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have adjusted our plans to ensure everyone's safety. Team meetings are once a week, but there are other meetings as well. This might include workshops, discussions, leadership meetings, etc. Only the people who are building the robot will be meeting in person, and there are only three students allowed in the robotics room at a time.

*Build Season begins in September and lasts through the month of November. The Competition Season begins in December and can last periodically throughout April.
