Narrowsburg Farmers’ Market Rules & Regulations
Mission of the Market: The mission of the Narrowsburg Farmers’ Market
(Barryville Greenmarket Foundation Inc.) is to provide a venue that will
benefit regional Farmers, Bakers, and Food producers. In addition to
providing local fresh food for the community, this market will increase traffic
to the town and help to increase revenue and awareness for the town overall. It
will also provide education about the value of eating local foods for health
and well-being, the importance of increased local food production, and the
impact of buying from local businesses.
The Narrowsburg Farmers’ Market will provide
equal membership opportunities. No person shall be denied membership on the
basis of any legally prohibited discrimination, including but not limited to
such factors as race, color, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex,
sexual orientation, age, or qualified disability.
Rules the Market will Live By:
A. Membership is open to producers in the surrounding region.
Membership is voted on by a selection committee with the best interest of the
market in mind. The market believes that competition produces the best
products. However, the balance of commodities is an important factor in
deciding on applications to ensure a profitable venture for all.
B. Only food products may be brokered, and then only 20% of a
vendor’s selection may be brokered at any given time. Brokered items are
limited to regional fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy products, baked goods,
and some value-added products . These items may only be brokered if no other
vendor/grower is producing these items. Brokered items must be approved by the
selection committee before sale. Brokered items may only be brokered by farmers
– those growing/raising similar products.
C. The selection committee/manager/market coordinator, reserves
the right to inspect farms, both announced and unannounced, to verify that
products sold at the market are actually produced by members and in sufficient
quantity to support the sale of those products.
D. All necessary certificates and permits required by a vendor
must be in place at the time of the market. All health department rules and
regulations are to be followed. It is the member's responsibility to know what
is necessary. Failure to comply can bring about dismissal from the market and a
loss of membership
E. There is an annual membership fee of $50. This must be paid
in full at the time of the application.
F. Recommended donation for each 12’ x 12’ stall space is $30
per market.
G. Rudeness is to be avoided. Rudeness to other vendors,
customers, and market managers or contacts could result in membership cancellation.
H. The market manager or market coordinator is responsible for
the orderly running of the market. Vendors will comply with the
manager/contacts' wishes regarding the operation of the market, such as
placement, signage, tardiness, etc.
I. Tardiness is not allowed at the market. Vendors will show up
a minimum of ½ hour before the market opens and be ready to sell at the time of
market opening. Vendors may be sent home if they are consistently late and will
not be allowed in the market unless they arrive in a timely
fashion.
Market Guidelines for Selling at the Narrowsburg Farmers’
Market:
A. A sign announcing the business name and location is required.
It is strongly suggested to have signs indicating prices.
B. Members are required to provide their own tables, chairs,
signage, displays, and tents. EZ-up tents are suggested. Tent weights or
tie-downs MUST be used. Failure to comply will result in fines of $10 per
incident after the first verbal warning.
C. No sales may be conducted before 9:30am.
D. Members are responsible for their area; please clean up any
garbage or debris generated by selling at the market. Have garbage receptacles
readily available to customers.
E. No loud music will be allowed.
F. Smoking Is not permitted in the market .
G. No discrimination is allowed.
H. A product-knowledgeable representative should attend the
market if the Member cannot.
I. Violation of the rules will be addressed with a verbal
warning. After the verbal warning has been given a member may be dismissed from
the market and membership in the Narrowsburg Farmers Market may be withdrawn.
J. If a vendor cannot attend the market, they need to contact
the market manager/contact at least 3 hours before the market opens, but
preferably 24 hours before market, or they will be charged stall fees. Contact should be made via text to Danielle 845-707-1658. Repeated last-minute cancellations or no-shows may impact future participation.
K. Pets are NOT permitted. However, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are permitted.
L. Returning vendors are invoiced twice in the season: the
last week of July and the last week of October. New Vendors will be invoiced at
the end of every month. Failure to pay by the due date may result in removal
from the Market.
