1. Choose a font. *
2. Designate the size of your book. 6" x 9" is customary. *
3. Tell me what you want in your header. Choose one for left pages and one for right. There is no hard and fast rule for this. Check books you have at home and see which you prefer. It's a stylistic choice. You will only check two boxes - one tells me what to put on the right side and one tells me what to put on the left side. *

4. Choosing yes on questions 4 - 6 will add time to the formatting, just be aware.

10. The following formats are standard. Click any you want to change.
11. Is there a specific page count needed for your book? e.g. no more than 185 pages; at least 100 pages. For a book to have a spine wide enough to carry the title, it must be at least 100 pages.
12. You may upload your book to Kindle Direct Publishing, or I can do that for you. If I do it, I need to know certain things.
First, you may choose three categories. These are where readers will search if they're browsing. Look at other books on Amazon that are similar to yours and see where they categorized theirs.
Be aware, most categories have multiple levels. Take me all the way to the end. Ex: fiction -> Christian fiction -> Historical -> Civil War
Tell me the three categories you want to list your book in. If you're uploading the manuscript instead of me, type N/A.

13. Your title may have a subtitle, such as "The Lone Star series." If you have a subtitle, please type that below.  If not, or if you're uploading the manuscript instead of me, type N/A. *
14. Is your book in a series, but not book one? If so, please tell me which book number it is, and also the previous book(s) in the series so I can link them. If it is the first book, this is not necessary yet.
If you aren't writing a series, or if you're uploading the manuscript instead of me, type N/A.

15. You may give your listing seven keywords. For example, if I publish a Texas cookbook, I might choose "Texas recipes," "Tex-mex," "Cooking outdoors," etc. A keyword can be a phrase. Two keywords should be one that appears in your title, if applicable. Amazon sometimes reassigns categories. If they do, you want that to show up when people search for your book. List seven keywords you want to use.  If you're uploading the manuscript instead of me, type N/A. *
16. You have the option of "going wide" or remaining exclusive to Amazon/Kindle. If you go wide, you may upload your book to other platforms, like Apple books, or Barnes and Noble. But if you go wide, Amazon reduces your royalty amount. It goes from 70% to 35%. *
17. Tell me the price you want to sell your book at. Ebooks typically list between $3.99 - $8.99. Paperbacks usually sell at a price between $12.99 - $17.99. Hardbacks go for $19.99 - $25.99. Check your competition. If you're uploading the manuscript instead of me, type N/A. *
18. For your covers, you need a .jpg version for the ebook, and a .pdf version for the paperback and hardback. Please give me the email address of your cover designer. Covers rarely fit perfectly the first time we upload, and I must be able to communicate with your designer if changes are needed.  If you're uploading the manuscript instead of me, type N/A. *
19. For your covers, you can choose matte or glossy. Matte almost has a texture to it. Your fingertips won't glide across. Glossy is very smooth and a little shiny. *
Your paper can be bright white or cream. Opinions vary on which looks more professional. Choose the one you like. Look through different books in your home to see which one appeals to you more.

If you include pictures in your book, you can choose to have the pages printed in black and white, or in color. Be aware, if you choose color, your printing price is going to be substantially more. Some authors choose black and white for the paperback, but color for the hardback. Color does not affect the price for eBooks. What do you prefer?
20. If you'd like to learn how to upload for yourself, I'll be happy to do a Zoom call with you and walk you through, step by step. Standard editing/formatting rates will apply. Would you like to schedule a call? *
21. Leave a detailed explanation of anything you want that wasn't covered.
