Please consider volunteering at our VEX Robotics State Championship this year. The event will be held at Mississippi College in Clinton on Wednesday, March 8 (VRC) and Thursday, March 9 (VEX IQ). Virtual training will be provided, as well as lunch, snacks and a free t-shirt!

Here’s what you need to know about each volunteer position:

Judge of Engineering Notebooks
This will be done virtually and independently on your own time the week of the tournament.
The digital rubric will tell you exactly what you’re looking for, so you do not have to have any expertise in robotics to be able to judge.

Judge of Team Interviews
This will be done virtually through Microsoft Teams the week of the tournament.
Judges will be provided with the questions and rubric that will be used.
Judging will be done in pairs, so you won’t have to judge alone.

Referee
This will be done in person during the event.
Need to have thorough knowledge of the game manual.
Will work with head referee to watch matches and ensure that teams are following all rules set forth in the game manual.

Timer
This will be done in person during the event.
Will run the clock during the skills matches with the referee.

Queuing
This will be done in person during the event.
Will stay at queuing table to make sure the correct teams are ready for the next matches.

Inspection
This will be done in person during the event.
Will go through the inspection checklist with the team to ensure their robot meets all the criteria set forth.

Computers
This will be done in person during the event.
Will run the computers by entering scores, running the timer, and running reports as needed.

Practice Field Monitor
This will be done in person during the event.
Will monitor the practice field to make sure teams are taking turns and not damaging the field.

Emcee
This will be done in person during the event.
Will announce during the matches to add excited during the tournament.

Registration
This will be done in person at the beginning of the event.
You will assist in checking teams in.

Hospitality
This will be done in person during the event.
You will monitor the volunteer hospitality room and keep things clean and replenished with snacks and meals throughout the event.
