8th Grade Course Selection 2020-21 School Year

Academic Block Classes
__ X__ Algebra/Algebra Honors        
Algebra is the eighth grade-level mathematics course for FWCS students.  Students work independently and in groups in these two period classes to focus on developing and applying various math skills to solve real world problems.  School staff will consider math class achievement, test results, overall math skill, and the challenge of an advanced class before assigning students.  
__X__ Language Arts/Honors (All Students)
This course is designed for all eighth grade students.  Standards in grammar, composition, literature and reading will be mastered.  
__X__ Social Studies (All Students)
Indiana state standards in social studies will be mastered in this class.  Although U.S. history will be emphasized, students will also explore geography, current events, and topics in economics.
__X__ Science (All Students)
Indiana state standards in science are addressed in this class.  We will take an interdisciplinary look at science, teaching concepts from life science, earth science, physics, and chemistry.


Related Arts Classes
All eighth graders will take two periods of related arts classes.  Follow the options below as you make your selections.  You may select up to two full year courses or four semester courses.  Whenever possible, students will receive at least one semester of physical education.

Please note, full year Spanish and Business Foundations are to be considered honors classes.  A cumulative GPA above 3.0 and a good attendance record are expected.

Selected students may be assigned to an academic support class in place of a related arts elective.
