San Mateo County Tobacco Education Coalition (TEC) Youth Advisory Group


The San Mateo County Tobacco Education Coalition (TEC) Youth Advisory Group will ensure that youth voice is at the forefront of tobacco use prevention education relating to youth and young adults. The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) will be the voice for young peoples’ needs and opinions and help develop and implement an innovative and integrated response to youth vaping and tobacco use.  

Application and Selection Process:
Interested youth/young adults should fill out and submit the TEC Youth Advisory Group application, due October 8, 2021. Qualified candidates will be invited to a 1-on-1 interview with members of the planning team.

Members will be selected based on the following criteria:
• Youth in grades 9-12 or young adults ages 18-22 with an ability to commit 2-4 hours per month (November 2021 to May 2022) including monthly YAG meetings, Committee meetings and community projects.
• Live in San Mateo County.
• Interested in becoming an active community advocate for anti-tobacco use among youths.
• Committed to raising tobacco use prevention awareness, encouraging help seeking behaviors, and educating the broader community about youth tobacco use with a social equity lens.
• Diverse representation of youth across socio-economic status, race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, lived experience of tobacco use, etc.

Responsibilities of Youth Advisory Group (YAG) Members
• Commitment to 2-4 hours per month (November 2021 - May 2022), including monthly Youth Advisory Group • • • • Meetings and community education activities (tabling, presentations, etc.).
• Orientation will take place on November 15, 2021 from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
• Advise on the development of county-wide anti-tobacco youth events.
• Brainstorm ideas on how TEC and associated partners can best serve youth and young adults.
