Thanks for your interest in National Board Certification. Vermont-NEA is the Candidate Support Provider for National Board Certification in Vermont. Although this is a voluntary certification, it is a natural continuum of our profession. Accomplished professional teachers, as evidenced by National Board Certification, is a growing voice of the teaching profession.
National Board Certification will be online or in-person during the 23-24 school year, with optional writing days in person. Most new candidates will complete Components 2 and 3 during the 23-24 school year, along with candidates who started last year.
There is a possibility of site cohorts in districts. If this is of interest, please contact Juliette Longchamp at jlongchamp@vtnea.org. In-person cohorts have not occurred since before the pandemic and we would love to engage in-person if there is a group in a district/area of the state.
National Board Certification is flexible, and one has three years to complete the online test (Component 1) and each of the three portfolio entries (Components 2-4). Most candidates complete two components per year, while others complete it all in one year or take the entire three years to complete.
Candidates should register with National Board and pay the $75 registration fee before the first class at
www.nbpts.org. (Many schools will reimburse candidates for the registration fee.). Candidates may take the class for Castleton Credit or noncredit.
