What is President’s Volunteer Service Award?
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is offered by the President of the United States as a civil award to honor dedicated volunteers who offer hours of personal time for helping others through voluntary means. The President’s Volunteer Award was established in 2003 through executive order by then-president George W. Bush. Recipients can be granted the Gold, Silver, or Bronze award depending on how many hours of voluntary service are completed.

What’s the process to get the PVSA?
Vallalar Tamil School is a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Vallalar Tamil School offers High school students the opportunity to earn this award each year. Vallalar Tamil School’s certification year runs August 1st through July 31st (For the current academic year – From August 1st 2022 to July 31st 2023).

What are the benefits of PVSA for High School Students?
The PVSA recognizes United States citizens and lawfully admitted permanent residents of the United States who have achieved the required number of hours of services over 12 months. Recipients earning this distinction receive a PVSA medallion, a certificate of achievement, and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States. Awards may be showcased on college applications.

What are the benefits of having PVSA in your college application?
Students College applications will stand out amongst the crowd. The PVSA gives students a unique opportunity to establish themselves as leaders. Whether the student wants to start a club, lead an extracurricular program, or be influential in an esteemed area of research at the College, they will need the ability to connect with and inspire others. Giving up hundreds of hours of one’s personal time to help others for nothing in return is something that certainly demands respect and puts the student on a path to being a college leader.
Volunteer Role and Responsibilities
Middle & High School students who are volunteering for our School will work in the following areas.

- Student Teacher volunteering opportunities (mostly given to Vallalar School Alumni)
- Student Registration Drive
- Books distribution-related activities
- Ushering the students during the in-person classes
- Activities during the school events such as Annual Day, Graduation Day, Pongal Celebrations.
- Event photography and videography
- Event videos and other related activities
- Developing brochures or other Materials for the School events
- And much more

Students have to Volunteer a minimum of two hours every week.

As per the PVSA guidelines, at least 50 hours of volunteering are required for getting the PVSA Bronze award. Minimum 75 hours for Silver and 100 hours for Gold awards.

Recipients earning these hours will receive a PVSA medallion, a certificate of achievement, and a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States.

Student Volunteer Agreement
If accepted as a Vallalar Tamil School student volunteer, I agree that:

1. I shall hold as absolutely confidential all information that I may obtain directly or indirectly concerning students, teachers, or Board members of Vallalar Tamil School.

2. My services are donated to Vallalar Tamil School without contemplation of compensation or future employment.

3. I realize I am never required to perform any services as a volunteer which I am uncomfortable doing or for which I have not been properly trained.

4. I shall not sell or attempt to sell goods or services, request contributions, or solicit persons to sign or distribute political petitions during Volunteering for Vallalar Tamil School.

5. I shall be punctual and conscientious, conduct myself with dignity, courtesy, and consideration of others, and endeavor to make my service professional in quality.

6. I understand that my appearance while on duty as a volunteer must be neat and clean. I shall wear the appropriate dress code as designated by Vallalar Tamil School.

7. I shall attempt to resolve any problems related to my volunteer activities with my supervisor or Team Leader and, if unsuccessful, attempt to resolve any such problems with the Principal of Vallalar Tamil School.

8. I shall make my best effort to fulfill my commitment to Vallalar Tamil School by completing all assignments I accept.

9. I shall at all times uphold the philosophy and standards of Vallalar Tamil School.

10. I understand that I must be available to volunteer a minimum of 2 hours every week.

11. I understand that Vallalar Tamil School reserves the right to terminate my volunteer status as a result of: (a) failure to comply with Vallalar Tamil School policies, rules, and regulations. (b) three (3) absences without prior notification. (c) unsatisfactory attitude, work, or appearance unbefitting a member of Vallalar Tamil School Student Volunteer Program. (d) any other circumstances which, in the judgment of the supervisor would make my continued service as a volunteer contrary to my best interests as well as those of Vallalar Tamil School.

I have read and understand each of the above conditions. I will have an opportunity to ask questions and I agree to be bound by this consent to volunteer.

I am the parent or legal guardian of the student volunteering at Vallalar Tamil School. I have the legal right to consent and, by submitting this form, I hereby do consent to the terms and conditions of this Release of Liability.

I assume full responsibility for our child’s transportation for Volunteering.

I give permission to Vallalar Tamil School to contact 911 or other emergency medical services if necessary.

My child has permission to become a Vallalar Tamil School Student Volunteer.

My child will be in compliance with the Student Volunteer Agreement.

By submitting this form, I voluntarily choose to assume the risk of all bodily injury, medical treatment, illness, communicable diseases, including COVID-19 and/or death that may result from my volunteering for the school, even if it results from the Vallalar Tamil School negligence or that of its Board of Directors or other Volunteers.
 
I hereby release, waive, discharge, exonerate, promise not to sue concerning, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Vallalar Tamil School, its Board of Directors, the individual members thereof, and all volunteers, and representatives from any and all liability, causes of action, claims, demands, damages, expenses and compensation, including attorneys’ fees, fines or other costs arising out of any exposure to or illness or injury from accidents or a communicable disease, including COVID-19, which may result from or have any connection to my volunteering. I give this release to the fullest extent of the law, for myself, and my heirs, administrators, executors, successors and/or assignees. I certify and represent that I have the legal authority to waive, discharge, release, indemnify, and hold harmless the released parties.
 
I certify that I have read this document in its entirety and fully understand its contents. I agree to this Volunteer Assumption of Risk, Waiver of Liability. I freely and voluntarily assume all risks of such hazards and notwithstanding such, release the Vallalar Tamil School from all liability for any loss regardless of cause, and claims arising from my volunteering for the school or any other School program.
