We the undersigned, call upon the Chief and Council of Wahnapitae First Nation to immediately:
1. Acknowledge the mistakes they made in the handling of the June 29, 2019 cannabis referendum including: issuing an undated referendum notice without the text of the referendum ballot, changing the wording and meaning of the question on the referendum ballot from the text on the notice, refusing to let representatives from on-reserve cannabis dispensaries speak at the community meeting held to discuss the referendum, and refusing to provide the list of electors to members who requested it – all of which are not only violations of the Indian Referendum Regulations of the Indian Act, but actions contrary to the ways in which Anishinaabe custom and convention understands the role and responsibilities of our leadership;

2. Repeal its standing motion which prohibits band members from speaking at the meetings of Chief and Council;

3. Repeal the Cannabis bylaw of June 29th which was passed without community consent or awareness and which enforces Canadian cannabis laws and prohibits cannabis on the territory of Wahnapitae;

4. Work together with community members and representatives of the cannabis businesses on the territory to achieve a mutually beneficial system of cannabis self-regulation.
