#Decarbonize Student Leadership Summit at COP 28 > Application
What is the #Decarbonize Student Leadership Summit?
Led by the Centre for Global Education, the #Decarbonize Student Leadership Summit is a week-long education and leadership program that allows children ages 13-19 to learn about the economic, social, and environmental interconnections of climate change through hands-on experiences. Students from around the world come together to build skills in action, advocacy, and global citizenship. The #Decarbonize Summit empowers students as environmental leaders to best serve their homes, schools, and communities. The #Decarbonize Student Leadership Summit runs in parallel to COP (same place, same time). Students will attend COP events, turning their Summit learning into real advocacy opportunities.

What is COP?
COP stands for the Conference of Parties and is the annual UN Climate Change Conference that takes place in a different host city each year. The COP is the supreme decision-making body of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and assesses progress on combatting climate change.

What happens at COP?
COP meetings primarily revolve around negotiations and debates. The aim is to review progress towards the overall goal of the UNFCCC: to limit climate change. Sometimes, COP will result in new agreements and treaties, often with the goal of refining targets, agreeing rules or forming binding treaties, like the Kyoto Protocol.

What is the #Decarbonize Student Leadership Summit?
A once-in-a-lifetime experience!  Don't just take our word for it!
Youth from around the world come together at the UN Climate Conference to grow their climate knowledge, develop their communication, collaboration, and public speaking skills, think about community and school action, and meet amazing people. By participating in the #Decarbonize Summit, students earn a certificate to include on school and award applications and their resumes. This is a rewarding leadership experience you’ll use for years to come!

Learning that lasts a lifetime. Action that creates a better world.
