HyperVerge Academy Volunteer Interest Form
HyperVerge Academy enables young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to learn industry-relevant skills and secure well-paying jobs in the tech industry. We run a 6-month fellowship program where learners are mentored by volunteers from the industry with a focus on learning by doing.

We are rapidly growing and building a strong community of people who can support each other in achieving an aspirational career.
Why Mentor?

Our fellows come from backgrounds where they do not have the guidance or the right exposure to join the tech industry. They also do not have the financial or other resources to find many opportunities. 

As a mentor at HVA, you will be a positive role model for our fellows, someone who is there to guide and advise them in achieving their full potential. You also get the opportunity to build your own leadership, planning and managerial skills in a supportive environment of fellow mentors and program team 


We are currently looking out for Technical Mentors with some competence in any of the following areas: Web Development / DSA / Data Science / DevOps
Pre-requisites:
1. Highly motivated and passionate about contributing to society
2. High competency levels in the chosen stream and a willingness to share that expertise
3. Interested in inculcating and strengthening leadership skills
4. Growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset
Expected Outcomes
1. Take ownership of upskilling a group of learners and get them to work on industry relevant projects by the end of the program
2. Ensure that the learners are equipped with all technical skills needed to get a job/internship
Responsibilities
1. Time Commitment: Commit to interacting with the learners for a minimum of 2.5 hrs per week over a period of 6 months through:
  • Regular Standups: To provide tasks and address challenges for the learners
  • Reflection Calls: To reflect, review and document progress of learners and keep track of their learning outcomes 

2. Availability: Be available async to clear doubts on the Slack channel and acknowledge messages of the fellows and other members

3. Provide and Receive Feedback: Share feedback and provide inputs to improve curriculum and processes to keep the program industry-relevant through:
  • Mentor Syncups: A space where you can meet other mentors at HVA 
  • 1-1s with HVA Team: When needed 
4. Mindspace Commitment: While the time commitment can be managed with your work in parallel, the mentorship comes with a great sense of responsibility
  • As a mentor, you will be looked up to and emulated by young and fresh minds looking to create a career for themselves. 
  • This is a challenging, but equally rewarding experience with quite a few mentors coming back to it for the second time :)
