School Time Start Change Feedback
Torrance Council of PTAs is participating in the Torrance Unified School District's Change of Start Time Committee. They are soliciting feedback from TUSD families on potential start times.
The CA mandate would be for HS to start at 8:30. To work with that, the proposed start times are 8:40 for Middle School and 8:50 for Elementary School - Zero period would remain unchanged.
Background: Senate Bill 328, sponsored by California State PTA and co-authored by State Senator Anthony Portantino, was signed into law by Governor Newsom on October 14, 2019. This law will prohibit middle schools from beginning their school day before 8:00 a.m., and high schools from beginning their school day before 8:30 a.m.
