The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the main application that families need to complete to apply for federal, state, and institutional (school-specific) financial aid eligibility. Due to changes to the FAFSA form this year, the FAFSA did not open until December 31st and will look quite different then in years past. A financial aid expert from Penn State will be in attendance at this event to help students and families start and complete their 2024-2025 FAFSA form. Please bring a computer to the event (a school-issued Chromebook works just fine!) If this is a barrier, please let Mrs. Colletti know prior to the event.
At least 5 days before the event, students and contributors (typically one or more parent(s)) should create an FSA ID. This is the account that students and contributors will use to file and sign the FAFSA form. They can do so at
studentaid.gov/fsa-id. If a contributor has previously filed the online FAFSA for themselves or an older child, they do not need to create a new account. I recommend that contributors check to make sure they can access their account prior to the event. Not sure who needs to contribute to your FAFSA? Check out
this article or reach out to Mrs. Colletti for assistance. If a FSA ID is not created and verified in time, the FAFSA will not be able to be completed at the event.
Please bring the following information for both the student and parent(s) (as applicable) with you to the event:
- Social security number
- Tax returns
- Records of child support received
- Current balance of cash, savings, and checking accounts
- Net worth of investments, businesses, and farms
