Brighton Youth Commissioner in Training Program
Purpose of the Youth Commissioner in Training Program:

The Youth Commissioner in Training program aims to help Brighton Youth Corp Members and youth in Brighton attain the training to be prepared to make the transition into the  Brighton Youth Commission. For the 2021-2022 commission year, the Brighton Youth Commission has 15 graduating seniors causing a huge turnover of the youth commission. To help combat this issue and make the transition less difficult, we created the Brighton Youth Commissioner  in training program. APPLICANTS MUST LIVE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF BRIGHTON, and must currently be in 8th, 9th or 10th grade

What to expect in the program:

Becoming a youth commissioner is a competitive process. This program will help youth prepare for both the interview process and being a youth commissioner.

In the BYCer In Training Program participants can expect to gain professional skills, leadership opportunities, and build lifelong connections. Each BYCer in training participant will be paired with a current youth commissioner to help mentor them in becoming a commissioner.

Though participation in the program does not guarantee a spot on the commission, it will assist in preparation. Interviews may happen as spots open up throughout the year.  If no spots open up throughout the year, the participants should expect to interview for a spot on the commission in July.

Requirements to be a BYCer in Training:

The mentees will be expected to attend every Youth Corps meeting the first Wednesday of the month and attend the Youth Commission meeting the first Thursday of every month. Each meeting will be at City Hall, with dinner starting at 5 pm. You must be able to make this time commitment to be a BYCer in training.

Benefit to being a BYCer in training:

The BYCer in training program will help you gain skills and land a spot on the Brighton Youth Commission. This program will provide you with leadership opportunities and open the door to life-long friendships.

Directions on how to sign up:

BYCers in training should apply using this google form. After they submit their application it will be reviewed and we will reach out for an interview. For more information or questions, please contact Tawnya Russell at trussell@brightonco.gov
