Trails across Maine have experienced damage from extreme weather events in 2023 and early 2024. The Maine Trails Coalition (MTC) is seeking information from trail managers in order to better understand the scale and impact of these storms on all types of trails across the state. With warmer, shorter winters and wetter summers, these frequent, high-volume storms are further exacerbating issues related to increased year-round demand.
Who Should Take This Survey?
- Trail managers (front and backcountry trail managers, land trust stewards, multi-use trails, private trail centers, etc.)
- Park managers who manage trails within their park (local, state, national)
How will this information be used? Data, stories and photos collected will help MTC further understand the scale and impact of storm damage. This will allow us to continue to work together toward finding solutions that better support statewide trail planning and infrastructure, as well as short-term, long-term and emergency maintenance needs for all types of trails in communities across Maine.
>> Please complete this survey by Thursday, February 1st. Surveys received after this initial deadline are still welcomed.
>> You only need to submit 1 form for the trail(s) you manage.
Even if you have not assessed all your trail, but have some information available- that is helpful. If you have additional damage reports after you submit your form, please email an update.
For questions related to this survey, please contact Silvia Cassano, MTC Project Coordinator, at MaineTrailsCoalition@gmail.com. Thank you for taking time to get us this information!
