Passion Project - Horse Riding 2021
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Murrays Bay Primary School is dedicated to giving our students innovative and creative opportunities to learn. We understand that we learn in many different ways and from many different people. During Term 3 our entire school will be participating in different passion projects for an entire week. Our dedicated staff have created fun and engaging projects for the students to opt into. Some of the options include skiing, baking, dancing and rock climbing, just to name a few. Your child has chosen their passion and will participate in a week of learning and growing in their chosen area. This is a fantastic opportunity for different ages of students to work together and learn from each other, while possibly working with different teachers too!

Your son/daughter’s passion is Horse Riding. Horses are great teachers and can often teach us things better than humans can. They communicate in a language silent to us, unless we look carefully for their signs. To be able to ride effectively, we need to have knowledge of how horses communicate and behave.

Your child will take part in 3 different activities: Horse Education Day (anatomy, behaviour and communication in Dairy Flat), Share A Pony Day (horse care, equipment and riding at Kumeu Riding School) and Pony Trekking (Warkworth Horse Riding).

Each Day your child will need:
- Full water bottle (there will be facilities to refill)
- Morning tea
- Lunch
- Pencil case with pencil, rubber, colouring pencils and/or felt tips
- Gum boots and/or riding boots
- Bike helmet or riding helmet (bike helmet is fine to wear on the ground with the horses, only riding helmets will be worn for riding and these will be provided if your child does not have their own)
- Waterproof jacket
- Hat
- Sunscreen
- Long trousers/legging, t-shirt, warm top, hat
- Change of clothes
- Hand towel

Teachers involved:
Miss Sharon Garner, Mrs Claudette Allen, Mrs Claire Fisher

COST
Unfortunately, horses do not come cheap and neither does anything else to do with them. The cost for the 3 days is $110.00. This MUST be paid before Friday, 27 August 2021.

Payment
Online Payment is preferred.

We will need parent helpers to help with transport each day, and with the activities on those days too (the activities will involve being up close and personal with the horses). Parents will need to support the children in their learning and to ensure appropriate behaviour at all times. If you are keen to help, please indicate on the form below.

As being around horses is high risk, there are waivers to complete for each of the Horse Eduction Day and the Share A Pony Day activities (these will be sent home on paper with your child). Warkworth Horse Riding do not have a waiver but have their own Health and Safety RAMs and high levels of first aid provision. Without the two waivers, your child will be unable to participate fully in the activities. Please fill these in before Monday, 26 August.

Kind Regards,

Sharon Garner
