We are seeking volunteers for our 2023 Summer Program!
Samye Hermitage New York (formerly Rangjung Yeshe Gomde Cooperstown) provides a space for the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism and meditation, as passed down through the Chokling Tersar lineage. Situated on 25 acres in the rolling hills of upstate NY, the natural beauty of our surroundings provides a perfect backdrop for our study and practice of meditation and the Tibetan Buddhist wisdom tradition. Here, each of us practices to develop compassion, both for others and for ourselves.
This summer's volunteer period will be from June 11 to October 10, 2023. We are delighted to be welcoming Tulku Migmar Tsering, from July 1 - July 30, and Phakchok Rinpoche from September 22 - October 1, with weekend retreats in collaboration with Samye Institute in the interim. Introductory classes will be offered by Matthew Zalichan, our resident teacher, and beginner to advanced instruction in the Tibetan language will be offered by Oriane Lavole, Phakchok Rinpoche’s principal oral interpreter.
We encourage volunteers to join us as early in the summer as possible, and for a minimum of two weeks. This summer there will be a number of public programs, and help will be needed in the following areas: Kitchen, Grounds & Maintenance, and Program Logistics. Each volunteer will be expected to join our daily practice schedule, and to adhere to our community standards of ethical conduct. Depending on individual responsibilities, volunteers have the opportunity to join the summer program offerings, including daily meditation, teachings, and retreats.
