The Chebeague Island Climate Action Team (CCAT) is conducting an island-wide groundwater study to evaluate climate related impacts on the town's groundwater supply. We are collecting information on wells and wastewater systems on the island to help us assess the current groundwater uses and to update the existing dataset that the Town put together in 2005.

Well and wastewater data will be incorporated into a Groundwater Sustainability Study for Chebeague Island which will assess the carrying capacity of the island's aquifer, evaluate potential impacts of continued development and future projected impacts due to climate change, including the risk of saltwater intrusion. The results of this study will be used to guide the development of land use practices that take groundwater protection and climate resiliency into account.
