Community Conversation #2
Wednesday, July 15, 7:30 - 8:30pm ET
A World Without Police and Prisons: A Conversation on What Abolition Really Means

Our guest speaker is Amber Ashley James, a prison abolitionist, political educator, and lawyer dedicated to building a world without prisons, police, and surveillance. After graduating from Harvard College, Amber worked at an investment bank on Wall Street and for startups in Beijing. When she returned to Harvard Law and Business School, Amber spent years researching the prison industrial complex, representing indigent criminal defendants, and organizing with the Harvard Prison Divestment campaign to divest Harvard’s $40 billion endowment from prison industries.

Amber will share insights from her legal and organizing experience on the roots of the abolition movement and what we can do to support it. What role has race historically played within our police and prison systems? What does defunding the police actually mean? How does it relate to abolition of the prison industrial complex? Bring your questions!

Please RSVP by Tuesday, July 14, 8pm EST. The Zoom link will be sent to all attendees prior to the conversation.
