ARCHERY - (9 yo +) Members will learn range safety, parts of the bow, arrow, safety equipment, how to repair arrows, maintain the equipment, and of course how to shoot and score targets.

ARTS & CRAFTS - (5 yo +) Youth will enjoy many artistic experiences and develop skills for a lifetime through activities focusing on elements of arts and crafts.  Explore creativity through construction with various materials, polymer clay, mosaics and more.

BEEF - (9 yo +) The beef project teaches the fundamentals of the beef cattle industry by allowing youth to explore the areas of animal husbandry, livestock selection, health, and care, in addition to the showing of beef cattle at the fair.

BEEKEEPING - (5 yo +) This project will help youth learn about bees and how to raise domestic bees. You will learn about the types of bees, the honey and wax they produce, the plants that attract bees, and the equipment a beekeeper needs.

CAMPING - (5 yo +) Learn camping skills including planning hikes, making fires, setting up camp and more.  Take local hikes and possibly go on a camping trip.

COOKING - (5 yo +) Our project members select the themes of the meals, prepare the dishes, enjoy eating the meals, and clean up afterwards.

DOG - (9 yo +) This project is for youth who are interested in learning more about dogs, how to care for a dog and how to train a dog in basic or advanced commands. We will have a trainer that has judged Dog Agility at Fair.

GARDENING - (5 yo +) Learn what it takes to grow plants and harvest them. In addition to enjoying our fruits and vegetables, we will take the products to Fair.

GOATS - (9 yo + / 5yo-8yo can shadow) If you like raising a market animal, try goat! Goats are very intelligent, and rewarding to raise. (And easy to clean up after!) They are small (60-120 pounds by fair) and require feeding twice a day. Ownership is 60 days prior to fair. Minimal equipment is required to show a goat at fair.

LEADERSHIP - (9 yo +) Join us once a month immediately after the officers meeting. We will be learning in a group setting to be innovative, creative and to have adaptability. Learn to be a decision maker all while having integrity and team building skills.

POULTRY - (5 yo +) Learn the care and feeding of backyard chickens, possibly attend a poultry show, learn showmanship and prepare your chickens for fair.

RABBIT - (5 yo +) Learn how to house, feed, nurture and prevent disease in pet and show rabbits. Learn about different types of rabbits. Learn how to groom, pose and exhibit your rabbit the Fair. Showmanship is exciting, competitive, and fun!

SELF DEFENSE - (5 yo +) This project is a practical, effective and empowering way for youth to gain safety skills and confidence. Rudy Trejo, a Padded Instructor, will be instructing the class.

SHEEP - (9 yo + / 5yo-8yo can shadow) This is a member involved project. We will learn about selection, health, reproduction, vaccinations, what to do in a medical emergency, feeding of a market lamb, showmanship, clipping, and general herdsmanship. This will be a daily responsibility for the member (not the parent) to feed and care for the project animal. The lambs will be sold at the Alameda County Fair at the end of our project. It will also involve marketing and record keeping skills.

SWINE - (9 yo + / 5yo-8yo can shadow) You will be responsible for selecting, raising and showing a market hog at fair. We will receive animals in mid-March and the project will finish with the Livestock Auction the last day of fair in July. This is a large time commitment, including monthly meetings, daily feedings, and weekend weigh days. You will be expected to spend most of the second week of the fair at the fairgrounds. You don't have to own a pig to be in the project and learn about swine.
Usually Monday following the Community meeting (which can be the 2nd or 3rd Monday depending on when the 2nd Thursday falls each month) 7:00pm-8:00pm Sunol Glen School Cafeteria/Library (1st meeting is Mon 9/25)
